Vernal Pool Restoration

During this hands-on workshop, Franklin County NRCD staff and Isaiah Belloir of Help on the Way Homesteading will guide participants in removing invasive species around a vernal pool in Fairfax and planting native species in their place. Along the way, we’ll discuss the important role native aquatic plants play in supporting water quality and wildlife habitat.

This is an outdoor event. Bring water, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and whatever else you need to be comfortable outdoors. Long sleeves and pants are recommended, as well as shoes with traction.

Please not that there are beehives in the vicinity of this project site, and take precaution if you are allergic to bees.

Parking: Parking is available along the driveway and Town Highway 42. Event signs will point participants to acceptable parking areas.

Rain Date: The rain date is Sunday, September 6th at 10am. If thunder or lightning is expected, the event may be cancelled or postponed. A decision will be made by 10am the day prior to the event, or by the 8am on the morning of the event if conditions develop unexpectedly.

Accessibility Information: The path leading from the parking area to the vernal pool is about 100 yards and is moderately sloped and through tall grass, which can be slippery when wet. A bathroom will be available. Limited seating will be available.
