Wetlands & Wildlife in the Refuge

Learn about the wildlife that calls the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge home while exploring the important role wetlands play in supporting healthy ecosystems and clean water.

During this workshop, participants will learn about the Refuge's diverse wildlife and explore the landscape features that create high-quality habitat. We'll also discuss how wetlands protect water quality by storing floodwaters, filtering pollutants, and providing critical habitat for birds, mammals, amphibians, and other wildlife. As a bonus, we'll learn some ideas for creating wildlife-friendly habitat at home.

The first half of the workshop will take place indoors in the classroom at the Refuge's Admin Building, where we'll introduce the connections between wetlands, wildlife, and watershed health through a presentation. The second half will include an optional guided walk on the Refuge's trails to observe wetlands and wildlife in action!

If you plan on joining the walking-portion of this event, please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and anything else you'll need to enjoy a comfortable walk outdoors. We will supply a limited number of binoculars; please bring your own if you have them.

If thunder or lightning is expected, the event may be cancelled or postponed. A decision will be made by 10am the day prior to the event, or by the 8am on the morning of the event if conditions develop unexpectedly.
