Tuesday, Nov 1 - Pay for Phosphorus Info Session at Hard'ack Recreation Area in St. Albans

Updated: Sep 21, 2022

Curious about the Vermont Pay for Phosphorus Program? Interested in enrolling for 2023? Already enrolled in the 2022 program and have questions or want to connect with other farmers?

Come to the Greg Brown Lodge at Hard’ack Recreation Area (179 Congress Street, St. Albans) or join us on Zoom (see below for details) on Tuesday, November 1st from 3pm to 5 pm for a Pay for Phosphorus Info Session. The Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation District will be hosting the session alongside the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets Water Quality Program Coordinator, Brodie Haenke. Attendees will learn about the enrollment process, eligibility requirements, how the program is modeling phosphorus reductions, and what practices you may already be implementing that could contribute to reduced phosphorus in waterways and possibly lead to a payment.

This event is for farmers who are interested in learning more and enrolling in the program in 2023 or future years, as well as farmers who are currently enrolled in the 2022 program and want to learn more about FarmPREP or have questions to ask the District, Agency of Ag, or other farmers in the program peer-to-peer.

The staff from the Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation District will be on hand to talk about how the program is going for farmers currently enrolled and how staff work with farmers throughout the process. The District can also help farmers update Nutrient Management Plans and take soil and manure samples to make sure farms will be eligible for the 2023 enrollment period. Information about the Required Agricultural Practices for farms will also be available.

Farmers and families are invited to stay at Hard'ack following the Info Session for a free meal and conversation as part of the Northwest Vermont Local-Led Conservation Meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the same location (more info to come soon - stay tuned and check https://www.franklincountynrcd.org/local for updates).
